Biography/Journal

Keron PsillasI was born in West Virginia and lived in Shepherdstown nearly my entire life. I was educated in local schools, but my most meaningful education has come through observation and inquiry. I am a lover of books, of art, of people, of mystery, and of travel, and have been able to craft an emotionally and intellectually stimulating life by indulging these passions.

Photography came into focus as an important outlet in 2003, while traveling in Scotland and England to research a book that I’ve been developing. As the photos came more and more easily, it was apparent to me that the images were as important to my work as was the writing.

I am now 47. This last decade has been one of great transition and at times great struggle. The images and destinations, along with family and dear friends, have always been my beacons.

Moving to Seattle in November of 2006 to accept the position as the Director of the Art Wolfe Digital Photography Center gave me access to amazing artists and industry professionals.  Departing AWDPC in late 2008, I have been working as a consultant for several photographers while finishing my book and getting other work published in magazines in the US, Europe, and Middle East.

I'll be adding travel and workshop dates for 2010....and you can see my blog under "latest news".

To my teachers, Sam Abell, Dominique Barbier, Steven Forrest, Jay Maisel, Arthur Meyerson, Art Wolfe, and Rick Holt...inexpressible gratitude. Your light, your warmth and generosity only adds to my optimism and enthusiasm for the continued journey. Thank you for sharing part of yours with me.
